About The Role

The Partnership for South Hampshire is seeking an organised and motivated Assistant Project Officer to support the Solent Mitigation Partnership in delivering naturepositive, sustainable solutions that protect the Solent’s internationally important habitats.

You’ll help deliver nutrient mitigation and nature recovery projects, manage key administrative processes, support stakeholder engagement, and contribute to emerging work on Biodiversity Net Gain and Local Nature Recovery Strategies. The role includes coordinating credit sales, preparing evidence for planning applications, maintaining project data, updating website content, and assisting with research.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a relevant degree or equivalent experience, strong communication and numeracy skills, confidence with IT, and the ability to work independently while building positive relationships. A customerfocused approach, good organisational skills, and pride in delivering highquality work are essential.

This is a great opportunity to develop skills in environmental landuse planning and contribute to meaningful, naturebased solutions across the Solent region.

Part time or full time applications are welcomed with a minimum of 25 hours per week.

About Us

Partnership for South Hampshire

The Partnership for South Hampshire (PfSH) consists of twelve local authorities around the Solent that aim to improve the environmental, cultural and economic performance of the South Hampshire area. We work with partners to dissolve the boundaries of individual local authorities – to successfully meet challenges together – and to make the most of the opportunities that can be shared across the wider south Hampshire area. Our partners include government agencies, infrastructure bodies and many others.

More information on PfSH is available at www.push.gov.uk

Solent Mitigation Partnership

In early 2024, working through the PfSH, the Solent area was successful in receiving money through the government’s Local Nutrient Mitigation Fund (LNMF) and has worked quickly to provide nutrient mitigation to aid sustainable development. The opportunity presented by the potential funding available is significant for the Solent region. By adopting a strategic approach, we can ensure, alongside the private market, that mitigation is available to meet the planned growth across the Solent long term.  This approach also emphasises the importance of not only addressing environmental concerns but allows for significant additional benefits for people and placemaking.

The framework and projects (acquired through the LNMF) also provide the opportunity to deliver multiple different forms of mitigation from one source.  It is intended that the Solent Mitigation Partnership will also offer, but will not be limited to Biodiversity Net Gain Units and Solent Wader & Brent Geese site mitigation. Mitigation is now being delivered across the PfSH local authorities, together with a number of additional partner local authorities across the wider Solent area.

More information on the SMP is available at www.solentmitigationpartnership.co.uk

Fareham Borough Council (employing authority)

We take pride in receiving feedback from others who say we are a friendly and professional organisation. By working for us you will become part of the team and will play your part in serving all our partners’ communities. You would be joining one of the most forward-looking borough councils in the Southeast, a happy team and a well-managed Council. We offer a great pension scheme, authorised parking, tech schemes and a car lease scheme to name a few of the benefits of working for us.

We encourage our employees to make a valuable contribution to the work of the Council and our partner authorities by having a trusting and open culture, where ideas are actively sought. We also recognise the value of a highly motivated and engaged workforce. We are committed to ensuring our services are delivered to the highest possible standard and we put the customer at the forefront of everything we do.

Fareham Borough Council is committed to being a disability inclusive employer and in order to support this commitment we are proud to be part of the Government's Disability Confident scheme demonstrating that we will provide a fair and equal route to employment with the Council.
Being part of the scheme means we proactively seek to address inequality for those with disabilities by challenging attitudes towards disability, increasing understanding of disability and removing barriers to disabled people and those with long-term health conditions.
